One of our readers sent us this:

My buddy saw my grrm books the other day and asked me what the series was about. I tried to explain, got a bunch of stuff mixed up, and eventually he walked away and told me to email him a 200 word description of the plot after the first four books. I tried and failed miserably. I wanted to see if you guys could do it. Cheers!

Since he (she?) didn't leave us a way to respond directly, we've decided to open this particular challenge to everyone. How would you summarize A Song of Ice and Fire for potential new readers in 200 words? Try to be accurate, but I think we'd also appreciate some clever and humorous descriptions.
